When Is The Best Time To Buy Your Wedding Shoes?

This is a question that I am asked by brides a lot. The simple answer is the best time to buy your wedding shoes, is once you have booked your venue and bought your wedding dress.

I suggest that it’s best to wait until after you have you wedding venue booked, as you can then consider the best style of wedding shoes for the sort of terrain you may encounter.

For example, if you are planning to have the drinks served on the lawn, you probably don’t want really stilettos, as there will be a lot of sinking into the grass going on!  (However, if you do want thin, high heels and are going to be on grass, then you can get some clear heel extensions which work a treat!).

If you have a cobbled courtyard, you may want to have a slightly wider heel, such as a block heel to give you stability. You get the idea! Don’t think you have to have traditional wedding shoes either – you can really think outside the box these days! I hand paint both satin and non conventional wedding shoes, such as white wellies, Doc Martins and Converse. Its your wedding and you can do it your way. Choose the traditional things you want to incorporate and throw the rest out!

As for timing, again the sooner the better is a great idea. If you are at the beginning of your wedding planning, you will thank yourself big time as your wedding date nears. You are likely to be a bit weary from all all the planning – wedding planning is full time job in itself. There are so many decisions to make along the way and anything you can tick off your list will be golden.

As I mentioned earlier it is best to have bought your dress before you buy your wedding shoes, so you can choose some that compliment it. If your dress is a simple style, you can can really go to town with detail on your shoes, but if  it is an elaborate gown, you may want to go for a simple style.

From a practical point of view, having your shoes with you go to any alterations appointments is really helpful. You can wear them while your seamstress takes up your hem and this will ensure it is taken up to the perfect length.

So wherever you are on your wedding journey, if you haven’t already bought your wedding shoes, now is the best time.
